Endotracheal Tube Insertion
1. Prepare the following necessary equipments and supplies:
a. Endotracheal tube
b. Laryngoscope
c. Stylet or guide wire
d. Sterile gloves
e. Plaster
f. Suction catheter
g. Suction machine
h. Resuscitation bag
i. Mechanical ventilator
2. Perform hand washing prior to the procedure.
3. Do gloving.
4. Suction oral secretions prior to intubation.
5. Hyperextend neck and assist the doctor in endotracheal tube insertion. Secure ETT with a plaster.
6. Attach resuscitation bag and hyperventilate the patient. Observe for chest rise and auscultate both lung fields.
7. Let the Attending Physician or the Pediatric Junior Consultant set the mechanical ventilator.
8. Once set, remove resuscitation bag and attach ventilator to the endotracheal tube.
9. Auscultate chest for equal air distribution. Observe oxygen saturation.
10. Observe and monitor for any unusualities and refer accordingly.
