Orogastric Tube Insertion
1. Prepare the necessary things needed:
a. OGT Fr. 5 or OGT Fr. 8
b. Syringe 10cc
c. Sterile bottle
d. Plaster
e. a pair of IE gloves
2. Perform handwashing.
3. Do gloving.
4. Measure from the earlobe to the tip of the nose down to the sternum to estimate the length of tube to be inserted.
5. Assist the doctor in OGT insertion.
6. Once inserted, introduce air on the tube using the 10cc syringe.
7. Auscultate for burburygmous or gurgling sound.
8. Once in place, secure the OGT with a plaster.
9. Do aftercare.
10. Document the procedure.
Note: For neonates on oxygen therapy, keep OGT open to drain.
For gavage feeding purposes, may keep OGT close.
